Alpujarra - Sierrra Navada

Saturday 22nd November
We have organised for a guide to take us up into the mountains for the day, should be a nice change from the cities.
From Granada you see snow capped mountains which is Sierra Nevada where we are going, there are a number of ski resorts on the Granada side but we are going to visit the other side.
There are a number of valley's down from the highest peak and we visit one with 3 traditional villages. The highest peak is 3478 m about sea level. Wondered around the two smallest ones, Pampaneira and Capileira before driving to a lookout just below the current snow line. Interesting in even thoough it snows all the houses have flat rooves. Well the church is an exception. So the story goes there is no materials up here for tiles and decent roads only came 20 years ago. You want tiles and a roof structure you pay big for donkeys to bring the msterial up. So locals put a flat slate roof on and water proofed with clay. The church paid.
