Rouen (pronounced Rouen)

Monday 3rd November
We arrived sometime during the night. Must admit it did not look very exciting from the boat, just a semi modern city. But back a couple of streets the old town is still there. House built in the 1700's.

We hear stories of multiple plague outbreaks. Then look at the little streets with no sewage and animals sharing them no wonder.

And of course this is where Joan of Arc was sentanced and burnt at the stake. We see the church court where it all happened at the end of another one of those hundred year wars. Years later they decided she wasn't a bad sort after all, just got caught up in politics. Then even later they felt guilty and to make it up to her they  made her a saint. But this wasn't enough so they built her a new church just meters away from where she was burnt. Looks really neat with great stained glass windows so hopefully she is happy now
