Winding down in Singapore.

Approaching the end of this trip. Sight seeing greatly reduced, trying to get over jet lag and getting use to 32 degrees after a week of 2 degrees.
Fair bit of pool sitting.
Great view from our hotel room on the 55th floor.
Did go to the Marina Bay gardens which was amazing.

Time to give Vienna the big boot

Tuesday 2nd December
Well the only thing we have not experienced on this trip is a full rainy day, we have now. Cold and wet.
For old time sake lunch at he Australian pub where I could have had traditional BBQ'ed Grasshoppers but I went fish and chips instead.
Grasshoppers get caught between your teeth.
Taxi out to hotel at airport late in the afternoon. On a 6am flight tomorrow.
Bye and thanks Vienna, been fun. Body needs the warmth of Singapore.

In search of the perfect hot drink

Monday 1st December
We head off to work with Erich and I go straight to the coffee machine. Sure enough around it is 4 people I worked with 15 years ago.
I am not even sure they have left the machine in all that time, great seeing them again.
Back to the hotel and check in then off to Shonbrunn  Palace to see what they have to offer. Yes there are Markets in front of the palace also.
I have had Gluhwein, Orange Punch, Apple punch and of course great Berry Punch but I think I found the one for me.
Hot milk rum mixture poured over caramel sauce in the bottom of the cup. But only 2/3 rd's full as you have to fill the rest with thick fresh cream with a few more dollops of caramel sauce.
Wait for it, people my age often have low calcium levels hence brittle bones. This stuff is good for me and probably should be taken daily.
It is a tough life but someone has to live it.

A simple wurstel in a bun for lunch, magic.

The Water Castle

Sunday 30th November,

The population of Vienna is about 1.9 million and somehow all heard my friends say "lets take the Daley's to the Christmas markets at the water castle".
1.7 million said we should go also. Not the end of the world for us but we didn't have to park the car.
They say castle but it is a big couple of buildings surrounded by a moat.
Very nice but yes a little crowded.
We decided after the trauma of the crowd we should visit some good Austrian wineries on the way home. I have taken to the grape variety Zweigelt which does result in a great red. The bottom picture is in the cellar of one of these local wineries
Home James and a couple more schnapps just to get the body temperature back to normal.

A small train ride to Baden

Saturday 29th November

You take sitting around in the lounge room for granted, how good was it this morning after 5.5 weeks in hotel rooms or boat cabin. Another day with a 3 degree max so we will not play in their pool. Two train stops is Baden a large village with thermal springs which was popular with the rich in the early days. It is now quite a large town and still a popular holiday spot where people come to enjoy the hot thermal baths. It only has one negative that being the smell of rotten egg gas from the street drains. So at this time of the year guess what? More Markets with Hot Punch Stalls. Most are run by the Red Cross or Lions or similar so it is our way to contribute to Charity. What's that " Ohh yer George". OK then just look at the pictures.
